A scandent shrub with many branches; stems woody; a few stout thorns on the older branches. Leaves simple, alternate and distichous, exstipulate; blades elliptic oblong or ovate-oblong, 5.0-7.5 cm by 2.5-3.0 cm, glabrous above and pubescent beneath. Inflorescences axillary, few-flowered racemes, not longer than leaves, pubescent. Flowers white, bisexual, zygomorphic, hypogynous; bracts caduceus. Calyx cupuliform, pubescent; tubes about 1.0 mm long with subtruncate lobes, persistent. Corolla salver-form, glabrous, fragrant. Perfect stamens 3, inserted at the base of the corolla-tube, opposite to the petals; filaments exerted; anthers
dithecous, basifixed; staminodes 5, alternating the fertile stamens, apically 2 partite. Ovary ovoid, tricarpellary, unilocular with solitary pendulous ovule; styles slender; stigma 3-lobed. Drupes orange colour when ripe, ovoid, enclosed by accrescent calyx enclosing the low 2/3 of fruit, with a short, stylar-scar, 1-seeded.
